What happens during an ear candling treatment?
Prior to an Ear Candling treatment, a full consultation will be conducted to ensure that Ear Candling is a suitable treatment for you.
You’ll then be asked to lie on a massage couch, on your front or side, while one end of the candle is lit and the other end is placed gently in your ear.
You may hear pleasant crackling, popping or feel a fizzing sensation while the candle is burning. The same process will be repeated on your other ear and the treatment is then completed with a calming and soothing lymphatic drainage facial massage, during which, particular attention is paid to the sinuses.
Ear Candling treatments last around 45 minutes. Your first treatment may take slightly longer due to the initial consultation.
What are ear candles?
The origins of Ear Candling is unknown, but it is believed to be an ancient therapy, which is used in many cultures all over the world. It is often referred to as Hopi Ear Candling and attributed to the Hopi tribe but this is now known to be untrue. However, no matter it’s origins, Ear Candling is a gentle, soothing treatment of the ears, face and head and can leave you feeling extremely calm and relaxed.
Ear candles are not candles as such, but are hollow tubes made from unbleached cotton or linen and infused with beeswax. We only use Biosun candles as they have safety features (including filters to prevent any candle debris falling into the ears) and contain only natural ingredients. These ingredients include beeswax, extracts of honey, St Johns Wort, Sage, Chamomile, beta-carotene and organically grown flax.
Is ear candling suitable for everyone?
There are some contra-indications to Ear Candling and unfortunately, it cannot be provided if you suffer from:-
Current Infection or inflammation of the ear
Perforated Ear Drum
Allergies to any ear candle ingredients
While Ear Candling is a therapy suitable for many people, it is complementary to traditional medicine and should never be used in place of care from your primary healthcare providers. Complementary therapies are not a substitute for medical care. If you have, or suspect you have a health problem then you should always consult your GP.
